MELAKA: The state has achieved its target of recording 17 million tourist arrivals last year.
Chief Minister Adly Zahari said 17,020,098 tourists visited the state last year, an increase of 225,630 tourists compared to 16,794,468 tourists registered in 2017.

He said of the 17.02 million tourist arrivals in 2018, 11.33 million or 66.6% were domestic tourists while the remaining 5.68 million or 33.4% were foreign visitors.
“For comparison, 11.04 million domestic tourists and 5.74 million foreign tourists had visited Melaka in 2017,” he said at Seri Negeri Complex in Ayer Keroh here.
Adly said tourist arrivals from China, Singapore and Indonesia increased last year compared to 2017.
He said 1,771,496 tourists from China visited the state last year compared to 1,668,959 recorded two years ago.
“This is an increase of 102,537 tourist arrivals from China in 2018,” he said.
Adly said the state government will continue its effort to woo more tourists to the state, including from China.
“We are planning to develop floating chalets on the Straits of Malacca as one of the new products to attract tourists from China,” he added.
Melaka was the second most popular tourist destination in the country after Kuala Lumpur in 2017, registering 16.79 million tourist arrivals.
