From 1870s to 2008, toilets were located above the river. Night soil were dropped into the river which was treated as a public sewage. Luckily, a modern sewage system was constructed since 2008 besides the riverbank. Above the sewage is the public walkway. Since then, all toilet and sewage waste of dwellings are discharged into the modern sewage treatment system, and not into the river. Besides the popular river cruise since 2008, the major civil works was the modern sewage system.
